And folks, the rest of the stuff just doesn’t really work. You’ll want to hear about it all.

Toretto’s Shitty Tuna Sandwich: F9 The Fast Saga
Hi and welcome to yet another exciting episode of Toretto’s Shitty Tuna Sandwich. This week Bryan Dressel, Matt “Zombie Dog Volvo P1800” Dykes, Joel “Alfa Romeo Spyder” DeWitte, and Ryan “Hudson Hornet” Lootens tackle ‘Fast 9: The Fast Saga.’ Does it recover the adventure and charm of the older entries in the series or does it strain with fatigue? Does it bring the ensemble that we know and love back together or does it feel like a Vin Diesel movie with other actors living in the b-story? The gang covers all this and more.

Toretto’s Shitty Tuna Sandwich: Hobbs & Shaw
This week on ‘Toretto’s Shitty Tuna Sandwich’ Bryan Dressel, Matt “Zombie Dog Shelby GT 500CR” Dykes, Joel “Bentley EXP100GT” DeWitte, and Ryan “Jaguar XJS” Lootens make a pit stop to talk about the rather abyssmal (and overlong) Fast franchise offshoot ‘Hobbs & Shaw.’ At least Statham and the Rock gave it their all, right? RIGHT?

The Fate We Make Ep. 6: Terminator: Dark Fate
This week on another exciting chapter of “The Fate We Make” Bryan Dressel, Matt “Zombie Dog Roomba” Dykes, Joel “DJ Roomba” DeWitte, and Ryan “Rosie” Lootens come together once again to discuss ‘Terminator: Dark Fate,’ the worst sequel with perhaps the best ideas. There’s also a prolonged introduction where the Binge Buddies attempt to figure out Aziz Ansari’s name, and all the Americans in the cast learn about the verb hoovering.

Jamie Lee Curtis: Knives Out (2019)
October has arrived, and we decided it would be a great idea to do a retrospective on the top scream queen herself – Jamie Lee Curtis. We start the month with her most recent turn in the Rian Johnson film Knives Out. It’s a tightly-paced and well-written whodunnit with really fun performances. And even though Jamie Lee Curtis doesn’t have as much screen time as we would have liked, she commands every moment and makes this a great way to start our month.

Eve Stewart: Cats (2019)
We made it to the end of our very enlightening Eve Stewart retrospective and to celebrate we’re discussing the divisive Tom Hooper spectacle Cats. There’s a lot to love in this film, and there’s a lot to hate, and really it boils down to how easy it is for you to get past Rebel Wilson and James Corden’s abysmal performances. Production design here is stellar – big surprise – but Tom Hooper tries his best to focus on other things. Bad Hooper. Bad. All that said, is the film worth watching? Hit that play button and we’ll tell you.

Taika Waititi: Jojo Rabbit (2019)
To finish up our month of Taika Waititi we talk his most recent film Jojo Rabbit. It’s certainly a weird one, but we love it all the same. The acting is superb, the sets and costumes are powerful, and the comedy works well to offset the rather dark subject matter. We have a few quibbles here and there, but overall this one is a must see and we can’t recommend it highly enough.
We don’t really have much of a “Where Have They Been Doing” other than watching more of What We Do in the Shadows. Turns out we covered most of his other films in the previous weeks.

The Other Voices: Booksmart

Every time someone I follow on Twitter watches director Olivia Wilde’s 2019 film BOOKSMART, they immediately rave about it and order everyone who reads their tweet to see it. So I finally saw it. And I agree one hundred percent: SEE IT. It’s even on Hulu right now, so just go watch it. I’m not gonna spoil it, so this article is safe for you to read, but as soon as it’s done, you need to see this film. Or go watch it now and come back after.
OK? OK.
I’m just gonna dive right in by saying that this is one of the best edited films I’ve ever seen. Editor Jamie Gross makes such judicious choices with where to let the story breathe and where to get cheeky. When filmmakers talk about voice – this film has it in spades. Even the music choices keep the momentum going when the story slows down. All this comes together in post – but it can’t happen unless the right shots were filmed on the day. And to that vision, we can credit Wilde and her cinematographer, Jason McCormik.
