This week sees the release of Fifty Shades Freed, which means we’ve got songs about getting it on. Straight up fuckin’ music from Flight of the Conchords, Boyz II Men, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Marvin Gaye, Goldfrapp, and more. It’s quite the naughty playlist, so queue up this bad boy and get to bumping those uglies.
We’re always looking for ways to make our weekly movie game interesting, and this week is no exception. We’re updating the rules ever-so-slightly to give you the potential for more points, but also more of an incentive to guess right the first time. Now, if you guess the movie correctly on your first try you get the full five points. Guess correctly on the second try, you get four points, and all the way down to 1 point. Guess first or guess last, it doesn’t matter. Just gotta guess correctly. Think you know your movies? Give these five stills a spin!

Subsequent guesses reduce the potential of each right answer after that, with a guaranteed minimum of 1 point per correct guess.

This week sees the release of Winchester, starring Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke. To celebrate this fun thriller we thought it would be interesting to make a playlist featuring songs about guns. Turns out there’s quite a lot of songs to choose from, and all of them awesome. We’ve got tunes from Nancy Sinatra, Billy Idol, Jack White, Pixies, Pearl Jam, The Beatles, and more. Bang bang!
All three of us were totally swept up by the performances, the script, the directing, and more than anything, the incredibly well told and convincing story. As the lights came up, the audience started to stir and grab their coats (an action I find pointless in LA, you don’t need coats here ya bunch of wussies) and the conversation I overheard boggled my mind. The room wasn’t even fully lit and the man in front of me started saying, “That was good, but doesn’t hold a candle to Three Billboards… yadda yadda yadda.” I’ve overheard this conversation many times but this was the first time it really stuck out to me. Mostly because the movie we just saw addresses this very instinct to react to something the moment you’ve experienced it. In the very beginning of the film Lady Bird and her mom are listening to an audio book, and when it ends Lady Bird goes to turn on the radio. Her mom stops her and asks, “Can we just sit with what we’ve heard for a moment?” I rolled my eyes and laughed with the audience, but I think there may be something to that.

With the Grammys coming up this weekend, we thought we would celebrate by making a Spotify playlist featuring music from the previous winners. For this particular playlist we stuck with songs from the winning album, songs that won, and allowed for songs from the Breakout Artist of the Year, provided it was from the album that earned them the award.
