Episode #270 – Anna and the Apocalypse

You know what zombie films could use? Christmas and musical numbers. That’s what we’ve got with this week’s movie ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE. Friend of the show Makaela Newsome joins us to talk about this fun, if flawed film. A good time all around, and one we have a heck of a time discussing. Come on by and give it a listen, but don’t forget your zombie-slaying implements.

Episode #269 – Roma

This week on the podcast we take on Roma, Alfonso Cuaron’s Oscar contender (and winner for Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Foreign Language Film) that has us wondering if we even saw the same movie. Graham Mason joins us to go over why it wasn’t as impressive as the hype would lead you to believe. There are some great moments in here, but they’re hidden within many a baffling choice.

Episode #268 – Mission Impossible: Fallout

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to listen to this week’s episode of After the Hype, where special guest Kyle Smith joins us to talk about the latest in the Mission Impossible franchise. It’s possibly the best in the series and we talk about why that is.

Episode #267 – IMDb Bottom 100 Battle

This week it’s a battle of the bad as we fight over which film in the bottom 100 of IMDb reigns supreme. Will it be the wacky Arnold Schwarzenegger flick, or will it be the sequel to the first Mortal Kombat. Maybe it will be the one with all the piranhas, or perhaps it will be the one where Nicolas Cage burns in a tall wooden statue. Guess you’ll just have to listen to find out.

Episode #266 – Couples Movie Night

Due to some timey-wimey scheduling conflicts and the convenient arrival of Valentine’s day we’re trying something a little different. It’s a Couples Movie Night episode featuring OG hosts Bryan and Chewie, each sharing a movie with each other and then talking about it. Chewie’s pick is Virtuosity, and Bryan’s pick is Titan A.E. It’s a shorter episode than you might be used to, but no less fun, and there’s speculation on whether or not Jonathan is a cuddler.

Episode #265 – The Nun

This week on the podcast we decided to watch The Nun, and God help us for doing so. Special thanks to friend of the show Elliot Campos for coming to save us in our time of need and providing some levity to help us get through this awful mess of a movie.

Episode #264 – Crazy Rich Asians

This week on the podcast we’re living the good life as we talk about Crazy Rich Asians, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and the wonderful Michelle Yeoh. There’s a lot to like in this lavish film, but it’s not without its problems. Special guest Gabriel Figueroa helps us break down what worked, and what didn’t.

Episode #263 – Bad Times At The El Royale

This week on the podcast the gang has some Bad Times at the El Royale, by which we mean they had a good time because this movie was pretty great. Lot of fun visual imagery and a lot of interesting twists and turns, with a fantastic acting turn from Jeff Bridges. Justin Thiele joins us to talk about the stylish romp from Drew Goddard.

Episode #262 – The Predator (2018)

This week on the podcast we have a bit of a Predator problem. Namely, that the new Predator movie is called THE PREDATOR. You’d think after enough of these movies they would want to reduce the confusion, not add to it. Anyway, this movie is a bit of a mess so we brought in friend of the show Erik Steffens to help us figure out what worked and what didn’t.
