Yesterday Twitch announced the dismissal of 400 employees, following a recent trend of mass layoffs across the tech industry and the resignation of former CEO Emmett Shear. In a blog post, new CEO Dan Clancy cited economic conditions and revenues that didn’t meet expected forecasted profits for the need to downsize. This news follows a trend of gaming media outlets bleeding people in the aftermath of the post-COVID realization that some people won’t be permanently plugged-into the internet once they aren’t a captive audience. -Joel
This week the Game Developers Conference takes over San Francisco for the annual expo focused on lectures, panels, and roundtable discussions from notable people within the video game industry. Among the news includes a slate of limited-time demos for independently developed games through the id@xbox demo program.
