This week on the episode Bryan Dressel, Nick “Nightwing” Friedemann, and Graham “Nebula” Mason talk about the “most hated” episode of season four and why it just doesn’t click like the others. There’s continuity in that they use characters from the show, but it just doesn’t really fit. You know, like a Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror episode.
It seems that a lot of cinema today is either a sequel, part of a wide cinematic franchise, or a remake/reboot/re-imagining of an existing property. The term “reboot” has become the go-to phrase for when studios want to remake an older film. In my opinion, the only thing that gets “rebooted” is a crashed computer, but that’s just me.
Remake fever is kicking into high gear again, with Disney remaking their old animated films as live action ones and remakes of male-driven films with female leads, and it has been announced that Ben Affleck won’t be returning as Batman in the next Batman film, which is sure to lead to a reboot of the character, again. But it’s not just films: TV series are going through this as well, with the recent remakes of Magnum PI, MacGyver and many others, as well as talk of a reboot of Lost, which has been off the air for fewer than ten years. It got me thinking about this fascination with remakes.

This week on the glorious Venture Bros: A Venture Brothers Podcast Bryan Dressel, Nick “The Penguin” Friedemann, and Graham “Stargirl” Mason talk about HANDSOME RANSOM!! We’re introduced to Captain Sunshine and his arc with Hank, which in true Venture Bros fashion approaches that “offensive” line, and does a little jig on it. A very fun episode whose A-story and B-story don’t mesh nearly as well as they should.
You know what zombie films could use? Christmas and musical numbers. That’s what we’ve got with this week’s movie ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE. Friend of the show Makaela Newsome joins us to talk about this fun, if flawed film. A good time all around, and one we have a heck of a time discussing.
