Captain Marvel: Review

To fully review a movie like Captain Marvel you need to spoil some things.  It’s inevitable and necessary. For those of you who wish to go in as blind as I did, I’ll keep this first part spoiler free.  My version of spoiler free, which means ZERO plot and character details.

Anyone who has ever listened to my podcast or read any of my work knows I’m very critical of Marvel.  I feel that too many people grant them a pass on all their problems and grade on a curve. When movies like “Ant-Man and the Wasp” are getting 7s and 8s out of 10, I feel like I missed a round of kool-aid.  Not saying that it was a bad film at all; it was a blast. Was it Captain Marvel? Absolutely not. Captain Marvel is exactly the movie I wanted and avoids nearly all the pitfalls I was afraid of. I haven’t been this impressed with a Marvel outing since the first Avengers.

TOP TEN GREEN LANTERN CHARACTERS!

Batman is a contender, and I have a soft spot for Aquaman, but the Green Lantern is my fave. Here are my top ten green lantern characters of all time.

I’ll start with a disclaimer, I’m not an expert on Green Lantern.  I’m a fan, have been for a long time.  But when it comes to the nitty gritty stuff, I may not be the best source.  Now that that’s out of the way, I want to tell you why the Green Lantern(s) is/are amazing, and why I love him/them so much!

When people ask me who my favorite comic book character is, I alway pause.  Part of me wants to say Batman, he’s a clear winner for many people.  Then I want to say Superman, Wonder Woman, I have a real soft spot for Aquaman… But when push comes to shove Green Lantern gets my vote every time.  This vote, is a total cheat I know… there are many Green Lanterns and I love them all.   So as a way to celebrate this fact, here we go! A countdown of my favorite Green Lantern characters!!

Wonder Woman: Why She Matters

Go see this movie. Don’t make me have to hurt you.

As you must know by now, Wonder Woman is almost here. The big marketing push hasn’t begun yet, making some nervous that the studio isn’t going to support the film as much because it has a female lead. Others are dismissing the concerns, asserting that the marketing barrage will begin as soon as Guardians 2 hits theaters and stops sucking the air out of the room.

“Why does this even matter?” You may ask. “If the movie is good, it will make money. If it’s bad, it won’t! So stop worrying and go to the movies.”

If that is what you’re saying, you’re probably a dude.

I plan to see this movie about a dozen times, whether it’s good or not. Don’t get me wrong – I hope with all of my being that it’s amazing and blows every other superhero film right out of the water, but it’s getting my dollars even if it turns out to be worse than that one really terrible Batman movie (you pick which one).

I’ll explain. It starts at the beginning:
